Experience

I am a certified secondary teacher in the state of Texas although I currently reside in New Mexico. I have taught on various levels from high school to university levels, both in class room settings and private settings. When tutoring students, I try to show them ways to understand the material and how to learn it efficiently, not just memorize the material to pass a test. My goal is to help students really to understand the subject. I teach methods that are true learning techniques that can be applied outside the classroom and tutoring sessions. I am fluent in Spanish as well as English. I have also published several articles and one book so far. If you are an international student I can help you because I have Taught English as a second language for many years. I understand linguistic difficulties that student have when English is not their native language. Since I have also learned Spanish, I know what it is like to struggle with learning another language. For my own benefit I am studying Russian as well. Even though I have not yet mastered the language, it keeps me sharp and reminds me of what it is like for a student to struggle with another language.

Hobbies

I enjoy writing and reading on lots of topics. Currently I write a bi-weekly column for our local newspaper. I gathered those columns and compiled them into my first book at the end of 2014. I also like to camp and hike. I like being in the mountains when I get a chance. When I retire one day, I would like to own a home in the mountains somewhere. I also have enjoyed traveling to several countries around the world.
